The Master of Arts in Sociology is an interdisciplinary graduate program designed to provide advanced knowledge of social structures, institutions, cultures, and human behavior within diverse societies. The program prepares students to critically examine contemporary social issues through sociological theory, empirical research, and evidence-based policy analysis. Emphasis is placed on understanding the complex relationships among individuals, communities, organizations, and social systems in an increasingly interconnected world.
Students explore major areas of sociology, including social inequality, globalization, community development, criminology, family studies, urbanization, race and ethnicity, gender, social change, and public policy. SOC 6010 – Social Research Methods and Data Analysis
Develops advanced competencies in qualitative and quantitative research design, survey methods, interviews, ethnography, statistical analysis, program evaluation, and ethical research practices used in sociological inquiry.
SOC 6020 – Social Stratification and Inequality
Examines systems of social inequality related to class, race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, and socioeconomic status. Students analyze the causes, consequences, and policy responses to inequality in national and global contexts.
SOC 6030 – Globalization, Culture, and Social Change
Explores globalization, cultural diversity, technological change, migration, globalization's impact on societies, and the social transformations shaping communities, institutions, and international relations.
SOC 6040 – Sociology of Communities and Organizations
Analyzes the structure and dynamics of communities, organizations, and institutions. Students examine leadership, organizational culture, civic engagement, social networks, and community resilience in public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
SOC 6050 – Race, Ethnicity, Gender, and Diversity
