Master Arts in African & African American Studies
August 24, 2026 2026-08-24 6:27The Master of Arts in African & African American Studies is an interdisciplinary graduate program designed to provide advanced knowledge of the histories, cultures, politics, economies, and intellectual traditions of Africa and the African Diaspora. The program emphasizes critical inquiry, scholarly research, cultural analysis, social justice, public policy, and global engagement while examining the diverse experiences and contributions of African and African-descended peoples throughout the world.
Students explore historical and contemporary issues through multiple disciplinary perspectives, including history, political science, sociology, anthropology, literature, economics, philosophy, cultural studies, media studies, and public policy. Graduates develop advanced analytical, research, communication, and leadership skills that prepare them for careers in education, public service, nonprofit organizations, international development, research institutions, cultural organizations, and doctoral study.
