Juris Doctor

Barclay School of Law offers a traditional Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, which is usually the first law degree granted by many law schools. The J.D. degree is awarded upon the recommendation of the faculty and board to students who successfully completed a minimum of 92 semester credits. The J.D. is a doctoral degree graduate program.

Program Overview

A Traditional Juris Doctor Degree Program

The J.D. degree has three tracks: the fast or accelerated track is a two-year program without academic breaks; the standard three-year program with academic breaks; and the part-time option, which takes up to four years. Students have the flexibility to alternate between the programs.

Barclay School of Law offers a traditional Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, which is usually the first law degree granted by many law schools. The J.D. degree is awarded upon the recommendation of the faculty and board to students who successfully completed a minimum of 92 semester credits. The J.D. is a doctoral degree graduate program.

The J.D. degree has three tracks: the fast or accelerated track is a two-year program without academic breaks; the standard three-year program with academic breaks; and the part-time option, which takes up to four years. Students have the flexibility to alternate between the programs.

Admission into the Juris Doctor program requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, a state-approved school, or its equivalent. The program requires a minimum of 92 semester credits, and the Law School offers three paths that students may take to complete the program: the Fast-Track option (24 months, six academic semesters with no academic breaks or vacation), the Three-Year standard option (six academic semesters with academic breaks and vacation), and the part-time option (up to four years).

Application Process

Applicants to the Juris Doctor program must complete the following steps.

Complete an application
Submit a transcript (official copy required later)
Submit 1–2 pages of a Goal and Commitment Statement to complete the program
Pay the application fee of US$ 55
Successfully complete an entrance interview

Time of Completion

The JD program at Barclay School of Law is structured to be completed in two to three years, but students may take up to four years to have it completed, depending on the options selected by the student. Students seeking additional time must apply for an extension. An extension fee may be applied.
