Dr. Lewes Lim

Dr. Lewes Lim is a serial entrepreneur, lecturer, and researcher who also serves as a peer reviewer for PLOS ONE, a Scopus-indexed Q1 journal. He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), a Ph.D. in Management, an MSc from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and an LL.B. (Hons) law degree from the UK.
In 2000, Dr. Lim founded SCAPA International Pte Ltd, a company built around a simple mission: separating “the Good from the Bad” through filtration. SCAPA is a leading solution provider for the treatment of semi-solid waste, using ceramic filter elements that achieve up to 99.99% filtration efficiency and withstand temperatures of up to 1,000°C.
A Chartered Marketer with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and a law graduate with an LL.B. (Hons), Dr. Lim specializes in marketing, intellectual property application, entrepreneurship and innovation, and leadership management.
Work Experience
Since March 2000, Dr. Lim has served as Managing Director of SCAPA International Pte Ltd, holding overall responsibility for the company’s profitability. With more than 20 years of experience spanning both marketing and engineering operations, he was trained in Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering and has worked across technical and commercial functions throughout his career. His work focuses on improving operational efficiency, developing new engineering solutions, and applying marketing and management principles to drive business growth. His core areas of expertise include operations and process management, engineering design and improvement, product development, marketing and business development, leadership and team management, and cross-cultural communication.
Since September 2024, Dr. Lim has also lectured at Ascensus Institute Pte Ltd, teaching business subjects including Business Finance, Business Analytics, Business Entrepreneurship, and Human Capital Management.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Lim worked as a Regional Sales & Application Engineer at NatSteel Engineering Pte Ltd in Singapore, where he assisted in testing a new container-handling spreader, a key component of container crane systems, and contributed to improving equipment reliability and reducing maintenance downtime, resulting in faster port turnaround. He also managed sales across Asia for the container spreader line, covering South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. He previously held roles as a Sales & Application Engineer at SKF Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, and at Idemitsu International (Asia) Pte Ltd, where he specialized in energy and oil trading.
Education
Dr. Lim earned his Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), specializing in Cultural Intelligence and Transformational Leadership, from Manipal GlobalNxt University between 2020 and 2024. He completed a Ph.D. in Management at American Management University between 2022 and 2025, and an Ed.D. in Educational Systems Management Leadership at European City University between 2023 and 2025. He holds an MSc in Technopreneurship & Innovation from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (2018–2020), and completed an MBA-level Digital Marketing module at Nanyang Business School, NTU, in 2018, earning a grade of A-.
He earned a Bachelor of Laws, LL.B. (Hons), from Birmingham City University between 2011 and 2013, a Master’s in International Business from Curtin University between 1998 and 1999, and a Diploma in Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering from Ngee Ann Polytechnic between 1987 and 1989. He completed his Higher School Certificate at The Don College in Tasmania, Australia, between 1985 and 1986.
Dr. Lim has also completed a number of executive and specialized programs, including Engineering Venture: Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship at the University of California, Berkeley (October 2022); Design Thinking at Stanford University (2022); Memristive Devices for Computing at the University of Southern California, hosted by Prof. J. Joshua Yang (2022); the Six-Dimensional Model of Service Innovation at Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, hosted by Prof. Jim Salas (2022); and American Filming Industry at UCLA, hosted by Prof. Dr. Raymond Ferris Abelin (2022).
